London's Best Asian Squid

Squid, despite its versatile nature and ability to suit many herbs and spices, is best (in our eyes) fried with typical Asian flavourings. A broad edit, granted, but one we couldn’t resist due to the three finds below… enjoy.

Busaba Eathai

Hands down the best Asian squid we've ever had the pleasure of consuming. Busaba Eathai are the worthy winners of this edit. Another of Alan Yau's clever restaurant chains (he's the man behind the massively successful Wagamama and the well acclaimed Hakkasan), Busaba serves up authentic, affordable and speedy Thai grub. The 'Thai Calamari' is spiced with ginger and peppercorns but the rest of the ingredients are kept well under lock and key. Trust us and try it for yourselves.

Mien Tay

Mien Tay offer some of the most authentic and tasty Vietnamese cuisine in the city. Their salt, pepper and garlic Squid is no exception. The batter is incredibly crunchy and the punch of chilli and spring onion will transport you right back to the shores of Nha Trang.

Foxlow is a new 'neighbourhood restaurant' on St. John Street in Clerkenwell where meat is its bag. The sibling restaurant to Hawksmoor, Foxlow may not be your traditional spot to grab some great Asian squid, but think again. The crispy five-pepper squid is crispy, salty and punchy from the pepper and chilli flavourings. Make sure you coat it in a good squeeze of lime and dip generously into the sriracha and ginger mayonnaise.
