London's Best Jerk Chicken

A style of cooking native to Jamaica, jerk seasoning is a spicy mixture of allspice, Scotch bonnet peppers, cinnamon and other similar herbs. Rubbed onto raw meat or fish, the seasoning permeates the flesh for extra flavour. We love a bit of jerk chicken, so here are our top three spots to try out.


BOOM Burger

Serving some of the best burgers in West London, BOOM Burger does it with a little added zing. The Jerk BOOM burger is insanely good; succulent tears of thoroughly jerk-coated chicken crammed into a toasted sweet bun served with fried plantain, mango and pawpaw sauce. Make sure you try the saltfish fritters too, they're very good.

The Rum Kitchen

Recently opening its second branch just off Carnaby Street, The Rum Kitchen’s true home is in Notting Hill. There are numerous jerk chicken dishes to choose from, from the tasty jerk fried chicken burger, to the jerk fried chicken thighs. Our favourite is the Jerk Supreme; a succulent grilled chicken breast served with sweet potato and yam mash and ample jerk gravy. Or if you like wings, the ones here are slathered in Scotch bonnet swamp sauce for added kick.

New on the Caribbean food scene is lively jerk bbq and rum shack Dub Jam. The Jamaican jerk chicken skewers are delicious; big chunks of well-seasoned chicken served with sunshine slaw and coconut and spicy salsa. Wash it down with some reggae rum punch and you’ll think it's time for Carnival.
