London's Best Shepherd’s Pie

The ultimate home comfort, we love this classic British dish. From the traditional to the reimagined – we take a look at the best shepherd’s pies in London.

This spectacularly-clad New York style bistro has one dish that tops every foodie’s bucket list – the famed Duck Shepherd’s Pie. Impossibly filling, very rich and full of depth – this is no ‘light bite’. The duck filling is sweet and tender, complemented by diced vegetables, sprigs of thyme and a red wine marinade. The potato topping is perfectly golden, fluffy on the underside and delicately crisped on the top. Wash down with a bottle of French Grenache and transport yourself to the side streets of Paris.

The Ivy

This London stalwart has been serving up their signature shepherd's pie for a quarter of a century – and boy it's good. A traditional recipe of lamb and beef mince topped with fluffy yet crispy Maris Piper mash, it is served piping hot with a hearty red wine jus. This is pie to walk miles for.

Cinnamon Soho

Cinnamon Soho specialises in Anglo-Asian cuisine and their creative Rogan Josh Shepherd's Pie embodies this fusion with confidence. With just the right amount of chilli, the stewed lamb shoulder is delicately spiced with fennel, star anise and bay leaves, while the cheesy mash topping feels firmly rooted in British home cooking. Celebrating two of our most-loved dishes, this dish merges exoticism with home comforts – perfect for drizzly London nights.
